He is scheduled to inaugurate a world religions conference in Gujarat, India, on 6 January.Tibet Sun/Lobsang Wangyal/India The Dalai Lama will inaugurate a conference on world religions in the Indian state of Gurajat on 6 January. The Dalai Lama’s secretary Tenzin Taklha confirmed the travel dates. The conference, organised by Ram Kathakar Morari Bapu, will be held at Kailash Gurukul in Bhavnagar, Gujurat, from 6 to 11 January 2009, according to reports. The conference is aimed at seeking ways and means to deal with the discord among major religions. The six-day conference will be attended by eminent religious scholars. The Prime Minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile, who is also a Buddhist scholar, will deliver a speech on Buddhism. Diwan Saiyad Zainul Abedin Ali from Ajmer Sharif will speak on Islam, Dr. Prabalkant Dutt on non-Catholic Christianity, Kanchi Shaknkaracharya Swami Jayendra Saraswati on Hinduism, and Dastur Dr. Peshtan Hormazadiar Mirza from Mumbai will speak on Zoroastrianism. The Dalai Lama will then travel to Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh, for week-long teachings from 8 January. He will teach on Kamalashila’s “The Middling Stages of Meditation” (gomrim barpa) and Shantideva’s “A Guide To the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life” (tchoejug).
